I recently got some great career advice that I want to share.
The discussion was centered around advancement within the company. A senior member of the leadership team advised not to be scared to be seen among your peers and seniors managers doing company business. It is okay for senior managers to know your name. Each time you happily help. It is like putting money in the bank. Make yourself indispensable, so when you get promoted the reaction around your peers is… of course it should have been them. Who else would they have chosen?
This does not mean brown nose and play the political game. Co-workers see right through the act.
It means –
- Do your job
- Be willing to do others as well.
- Do not complain
- Maintaining a positive attitude
- Learn new skills
- Ability to take on more responsibility
- Brand loyalty
This is what Corporate America wants to see in their future leaders. It is also what small business owners want to see in their employees. The reality is these are solid traits that every professional should aspire to have in their skill set.
Thank you for reading. I will be posting weekly career advice aimed at those entering the work force and those that haved stalled in their career paths.
